Why does couples counseling cost more than individual counseling? Well, couples counseling is a specialized area of counseling that requires additional training, most often beyond what is taught in graduate programs. Also, the therapist is outnumbered two to one in the counseling room, so it is double the listening and attending behaviors that the therapist has to incorporate etc.
Why can’t I use my health insurance to pay for couples counseling? Some insurance panels may pay for couples counseling, it depends on the specific plan you have chosen. It has been my experience in the past when I was on insurance panels, that they would not pay for couples counseling because they did not view it a medical necessity, and therefore would not cover the cost.
What kind of training qualifies my therapist to provide couples counseling? Well, I am highly trained at both the Masters and Doctoral level, in couples and family systems. I have had training in the Gottman Method https://www.gottman.com, Imago http://imagorelationships.org, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) http://www.iceeft.com/index.php/about-us/what-is-eft these are all specialized trainings that teach therapist how to work with couples.
How do I help? I help dating and married couples improve communication, work past infidelity, and re-establish intimacy. I help engaged couples design their marriage and decide if they are compatible for marriage.
I am also trained in PrePare Enrich an online premarital assessment https://www.prepare-enrich.com/webapp/pe/faq/template/DisplaySecureContent.vm;pc=1472422119404?id=pe*faq*overview.html&emb_org_id=0&emb_sch_id=0&emb_lng_code=ENGLISH
